It’s been a while since our last video update – and we apologize for dropping the ball! Lots has happened and the kitchen is officially done!! So without any further ado, here goes for week 6-8 of our kitchen renovation!
Week 6-8 / Finishing Details
During the last three weeks we worked hard on the finishing details of the kitchen. From having the marble countertops installed – and having issues with honing/polishing matters – to changing our plans for the uppers, plankwalling the back splash and installing handles.
Adrian created the corner fillers from plywood, which I then painted with satin white paint. Surprisingly, they look AMAZING!
The countertops were installed & sealed. Unfortunately the fabricators polished large parts of our beautifully honed marble slab, which created a ton of headache for us in the following days. Although it’s really tricky to capture the mess in photos, below you can see the shiny parts. Pretty much all of the wall facing side to the left, all the way into the big peninsula area, had large shiny blotches. Really really really frustrating!
Not only are the spots shiny, in the right light you can also see the polishing marks….. What a letdown.
Instead of building the wine rack as planned, we decided to keep the walls around the window ‘topless’ LOL and instead built the wine rack directly inbetween the wall and the one upper cabinet. Adrian used the nail gun to create the floating shelf effect: LOVE!
Next up, plank wall backsplash & paint. My newest trick in the book when it comes to plank walls? Prime and paint before the wall goes up, then you only need to touch up one more time! SO much easier than painting the wall installed!
Lastly we installed the brass cup pulls! That was a super exciting part, because the pulls really pulled together (no pun intended 😉 ) the entire design. The pulls in combination with the high gloss cabinet fronts, the marble and plank wall really created exactly what I was going for: a modern farmhouse kitchen!
So, that’s it for our kitchen renovation!! We have a few more details to finish up, like undercabinet lighting and switching out the light fixture above the sink. But other than that, everything is functioning super well and we couldn’t be happier with how this space has turned out!
