Week Three

Seems like time is flying over here and things are really taking shape in the nursery! I think the biggest moment was putting up the crib and starting to think about different fabric options for the mattress cover!

The Crib

Here came my first frustration. The crib. Originally I wanted the super adorable SINGLAR bare wood crib from IKEA. Of course it was sold out and not to be back in stock until like February 2018! Currently they even took it completely off their website – can you believe our luck!? So I looked on Amazon and found this pretty one. I finally made up my mind to go with the white one (the grey crib was the runner up) and there we went again – to be shipped within the next 3-4 months!!! Whaaaaaaaaat!!!??

Since I wasn’t ready to shell out the big bucks for a pretty one like this one, we went back to IKEA and got the pretty SUNDVIK crib instead. I love that the slats are not round and the crib converts into a really adorable toddler bed down the road.

Putting up this crib was a special treat for us, especially since we’ve wanted to add to our little family for so long and had really given up on the idea of ever getting to put a crib together for our future baby. Call it nesting or whatever else, it was a beautiful feeling to prep something so special for this kicking little critter inside of me 🙂

DIY Crib Mattress Cover

Unless you’re willing to spend the big bucks over on Etsy, I feel there really aren’t too many beautiful crib mattress covers out there, right? And since we’re having a winter baby I wanted to make this crib extra cuddly and warm, with flannel fabric! So I simply made my own cover from some fabric I found at Joann’s. It’s a really simple tutorial, which I will share at a later point.

DIY Changing Pad Cover

The changing pad came the other day and same as with the mattress cover, there’s just nothing out there that I really liked as far as covers go. Either they’re too cutsie, too expensive or seem rather impractical for frequent washing.

Our closest Walmart has a pretty good fabric section where I picked up some dark heathered grey T-shirt fabric. With the same principle as the mattress cover, a couple of pretty covers were created in a matter of half an afternoon.

Book Shelves

I believe it’s a great practice to surround children with books. Instead of stuffing them into a box or bookshelf, we hung a couple of IKEA picture ledges right above the butterfly chair and not only do they hold quite a good amount of favorite story books, it also acts as a really adorable focal point that adds a pop of color! May the story telling soon begin!

One last thing that happened this week: Adrian hung the curtain hardware this morning. The curtain panels are bought and already washed and basically ready to be sewn up to the correct length. Which is a project that’s scaring me a little since it’s kinda big 😉 LOL

That concludes week three – thanks so much for following along as our white Scandinavian inspired nursery is starting to come together!
