Week Six / Scandinavian Nursery REVEAL!!!

It’s been an intense six weeks of transforming the previous Crafts Room into our baby’s nursery, but the experience was amazing and I would do it again in a heart beat! Focusing and tackling a single room is definitely the way to go! A lesson I should have known all along, but somehow had forgotten πŸ˜‰

Crib

Although we struggled with finding the right crib (week 3), the SUNDVIK crib from IKEA turned out to be a perfect match! We chose a more grown up color scheme for this room, playing it bold with stark black pops amidst a sea of white and grey.

I especially love how the raw wood shelf above the crib adds so much warmth and will be the perfect spot to decorate throughout the year. Little tiny Christmas tree anyone?? πŸ™‚

Even though Adrian initially felt like the DIY Mobile looked a little ‘witch-crafty’ and dark, I love how it adds a bold focal point against the white walls and brightly lit window.

Reading Nook

A super important spot to me was the reading nook. Instead of just stuffing books into a bookcase, we opted to use two long picture ledges from IKEA and showcase baby’s first books. It creates such a sweet kiddy moment in the space. My future plan is to regularly go to the library and have a constant rotation of story books. Just another way of making life interesting yet clutter free!

To bring in a pop of black, I framed a tiny little watercolor piece and stuck it up on the top picture ledge. It gives the wall a bit of extra height, as books are generally only this tall..

Next to the nook is a BILLY bookcase with OXBERG doors. I plan on storing extra clothes, toys and larger amounts of diapers in there. For now though, it’s completely empty.

Changing Station

The $50 shelves Adrian built turned out to be the perfect spot to clean baby’s dirty diapers. We got plenty of storage in this nook for baby’s current clothes and essentials. By far my favorite part is the beautiful gallery wall! This project turned out so much better than I had envisioned! LOVE the sophisticated, matte black frames that hold a series of my watercolor paintings πŸ™‚

The changing station itself is rather simple and straight forward. A felt caddy I found on Amazon will hold all the essentials, while the three grey baskets below will hold the current clothing. To omit folding baby’s clothes, I’m planning on using one basket each for onesies, jumpsuits and a combination of pants and sweaters. Easy peasy!

Behind the changing pad I’m going to be adding an ‘encouragement’ wall πŸ˜‰ You know, pieces that make you smile and give you that ‘other’s have been there, done that’ feeling when you’re completely sleep deprived and have to change/feed baby for the gazillionst time that night… LOL So I’m going to add cute pictures as well as cards we’re getting from friends and family to celebrate baby’s arrival. I’m looking forward to grow this wall into a happy cluster of paper goods!
