In preparation for our little one, I’ve cranked out my sewing machine and worked on a few projects the other week. I made some hooded bath towels, some swaddle blankets and some adorable little DIY baby washcloths! Today I want to share a quick tutorial on these super simple washcloths.
As I’m writing this, little one is happily hiccuping in my tummy and poking out various body parts 😉
DIY Baby Washcloths – Supplies:
- 10×10″ cotton terry cloth (JoAnn’s)
- 10×10″ cotton fabric (fox fabric by Dear Stella)
- Sewing machine (still absolutely loving my Brother Ci-6000)
- Thread, Pins, Scissors and/or Rotary Cutter, Mat & Ruler Kit
Step 1 – Cut the Fabric
Cut your 10×10″ fabric squares from terry cloth and cotton fabric. My favorite way is to use the rotary cutter, as it gives me the straightest cuts in no time.
Step 2 – Pin & Sew
Now pin together your two fabric squares, right side facing each other. Since terry cloth is just about the same on both sides, don’t worry about sides there. Just make sure that the cotton fabric is right side in.
Next up sew along the edges, leaving a 2-3″ gap somewhere along one of the edges.
Step 3 – Turn the Washcloth
Pull the fabric through the gap and make sure the corners are stuffed out nicely.
Step 4 – Sew along the Edges
Lastly pin along the edges, including the gap, and sew closely to the edge of the cotton fabric side.
That’s pretty much it! It’s probably the simplest, most satisfying DIY I’ve done in a while 😉 These would also make for such sweet little gifts for a baby shower or new mama!
